This course is aligned with the New Zealand National Curriculum and the Cambridge International Education curriculum.

The course is designed to enable students to develop knowledge and practices including:

  • Developing proficiency with English spellings.
  • Planning and writing for a specific audience and purpose.
  • Selecting and using a range of language features and literary techniques to communicate clearly and meet their purpose.
  • Selecting and using words that clearly communicate their ideas, including deciding between synonyms for effect.
  • Writing complex sentences to add depth and detail and show ideas are linked.
  • Understanding sentence structure for crafting sentences to effectively communicate ideas.
  • Crafting sentences that communicate meaning clearly by correctly using knowledge of grammar (including subjects and verbs, phrases and clauses, and verb tense) and punctuation.
  • Writing to entertain, inform, and persuade coherently using carefully selected language and a cohesive structure appropriate to the purpose and audience.

The topics per module are:

  • Magic and mystery
  • Heroism and villainy
  • Thrills and chills
  • Facts and feelings

Text forms include:

  • Extracts from novels and short stories.
  • Poetry.
  • Media texts, including digital media.

    Latest Updates -Curriculum Enhancements

    1. Cambridge Programme Upgrade

    • All Cambridge academic syllabus support and tutoring will be completed in Module/Term 1 and Module/Term 2.
    • Module 3 will focus on Cambridge mock exams, external exam revision, and intensive preparation.
    • No additional holiday revision classes will be offered.
    • Small-class teaching: limited to 10 students per class to ensure strong teacher–student interaction and efficient Q&A, supporting strong, high-quality academic progress.

    2. New General Studies Programme (Years 7–10)
    In response to parents’ and students’ requests, and to help build a solid foundation for senior years, Peak Education will launch General Studies classes for Years 7–10 in 2026.

    These classes will not have a limit on student numbers.
